20-in-1 multi-tool pack that includes everything needed for an emergency repair

People who like to be prepared for emergency equipment repairs while on the go don't want to lug around a heavy tool belt. Harbor Freight's Gordon 20-in-1 Multi-Tool puts a range of useful tools at your fingertips without weighing you down.

You may have a big toolbox full of everything you need to fix a broken gadget or put together something creative and new, but you probably don’t want to carry it around all the time. That’s where multi-tools come in handy.

There are a number of sleek options vying for your attention, many of which are raising production funds on crowdfunding platforms and may be subject to shipping delays or may not show up at all. The Gordon 20-in-1 Multi-Tool is designed to “perform virtually any task on the job site or in the field” and is available from US hardware chain Harbor Freight.

It's one of many in-house brands under Harbor Freight's corporate wing, which also includes Gordon, Bauer, US General, Hercules and Atlas. This relatively inexpensive multitool features a stainless steel frame and blade, and the tools, which reportedly lock in place when not in use, allow for easy one-handed deployment.

Port Transportation

This is one of those collapsible designs with two arms that pack closely together during transport and then unfold to become a pair of tool-filled pliers. In addition to the 2.86-inch blade, the multi-tool also comes with a serrated blade, saw, scissors, bit drivers and screwdrivers, wire cutters and wire strippers, regular pliers that can also be used as needle-nose pliers, wood rasp and diamond-coated rasp, metal rasp, crimper, gut hook, glass breaker, 8-inch ruler, and both a can opener and a bottle opener.

This is quite a large collection for a product measuring 10.3 x 3.8 x 2.3 cm (4.06 x 1.53 x 0.91 in) and weighing 10.5 oz (~300 g) in shipping. This weight includes the packaging, woven polyester pouch, and belt clip.

The Gordon 20 appears to be available in stores starting in late May, but will be available online starting August 8. It’s listed for $39.99. Most users who’ve already purchased one and taken the time to leave reviews seem happy with their purchases, but a handful are reporting potential durability issues.
