As it has been announced, two games based on Halloween are currently in development.
As IGN reports, developer Boss Team Games – most recently responsible for Evil Dead: The Game – is working on both titles.
While details of one of the games are still being kept secret, it has been announced that the other will be developed using Unreal Engine 5 and will feature input from John Carpenter, who directed the 1978 original.
In a statement, Carpenter, who was reportedly “closely involved” in the game's development, said: “As an avid gamer myself, I'm thrilled to bring Michael Myers back to life in this game and I hope to scare the crap out of you.”
According to Boss Team, both games allow players to “relive moments from the film and take on the role of classic characters from one of the most iconic and significant horror films of all time.”
The only official Halloween game released to date is an Atari 2600 adaptation released by Wizard Video in 1983. Both this and Wizard's Atari 2600 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are considered rare.
The series' main antagonist, Michael Myers, has appeared as a DLC character in the PvP horror multiplayer game Dead by Daylight, along with numerous other horror villains.
John Carpenter is working with Saber Interactive on Toxic Commando, a co-op FPS in which players must destroy the Sludge God, an evil creature that can turn people into zombies.
After Saber split from Embracer Group earlier this year, COO Tim Willits confirmed that Toxic Commando is still in development.
Carpenter, an avowed video game fan, had previously stated that he was interested in directing a film version of Dead Space, but said last year that he had heard that another director was being considered for such a film.
