A new miniature console based on the Atari 7800 has been announced.
The Atari 7800+ is touted as a scaled-down and faithful replica of the console that was first released in 1986.
The global launch will be on November 29, 2024 and pre-order is available now for $129.99/£99.99/€119.99.
It is backwards compatible with hundreds of original Atari 2600 and 7800 games, has HDMI output and USB power, and comes with a wireless gamepad, the CX 78+.
Included with the system is Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest, a brand new sequel to Crystal Castles on cartridge.
According to Atari, it is an “action-adventure game in which the main protagonist navigates isometric mazes while collecting crystals and avoiding enemies.”
The CX78+ wireless gamepad and CX40+ wireless joystick are sold separately, with each peripheral priced at $34.99 / £29.99 / €34.99.
Six Atari 7800+ games will be released at the console's launch: Asteroids Deluxe, Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest, Berzerk, Bounty Bob Strikes Back, Frenzy and Space Duel.
Additionally, four new Atari 2600+ games will be released on November 29th: Caverns Of Mars, RealSports Collection, Epyx Games and M-Network Collection.
The Atari 400 mini console was released in March, and VGC's review called it a “fantastic homage” that was only let down by the joystick.
