The developers of a highly anticipated mod for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered say Activision forced them to cancel the release.
H2M is a mod for Modern Warfare Remastered that was scheduled for release on Friday and promised an updated version of the multiplayer portion of the original Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
The mod was supposed to contain over 50 maps and also include an updated progression system as well as new attachments and camouflages that were not included in the original game. The original Killsteak suite from Modern Warfare 2 was also part of the mod.
However, in a brief statement on X – just five hours after releasing a trailer teasing the release – the mod's developers announced that the release had been cancelled.
“Today, our team members received a cease and desist order on behalf of Activision Publishing regarding the H2M mod project,” it said.
“We are complying with this order and will immediately and permanently close all operations.”
The mod, which requires the base game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, caused so much excitement that the game shot to the top of the Steam charts and even reached fourth place at one point.
The mod was intended to combine the maps that were already included in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered with the maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that the modders had taken from the original game.
