According to developer Obsidian, Avowed has more than ten different endings.
When asked about the number of possible endings for the upcoming Xbox RPG, director Carrie Patel told IGN, “It's very difficult to say.”
They added: “I can tell you the number of our closing slides is in the double digits, in the end there can be many different combinations.”
These ending slides are likely still images with post-game context, telling the player what happened to them and the characters they met on their journey. This is a common ending technique for role-playing games where animating multiple permutations of an ending would be prohibitively expensive.
“Your ending is really the sum of your decisions throughout the game,” Patel later added.
Avowed was originally scheduled to release later this year, but is now set to release in 2025. Xbox had planned for a 2024 release for the game, with a blog post from developer Obsidian seemingly (accidentally) confirming a November 12 release before that post was removed.
However, a message posted by the official Xbox account on X confirmed that the game will now be released on February 18, 2025.
Avowed was announced in July 2020 as a first-person fantasy action RPG set in the world of Eora, originally introduced in Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity series. Patel says the game will be similar in length to Obsidian's previous game, The Outer Worlds.
