Prismatic exotic class items are some of the most powerful gear Destiny 2: The Final Figure because they can be randomly rolled with special perks from other loot, allowing players to mix and match them to create extra-powerful builds. However, thanks to a recent update, their drop rates have bottomed out again after a week Bungie announces dramatic cuts To the staff working on the game.
Patch 8.0.5 went live earlier this week, and it looked like it would improve the grinding for rare and highly sought-after gear with better drop rates. Instead, it looks like a bug or other issue has made it harder to obtain exotic class items. Players quickly noticed that Overthrow, an event in the expansion's new Pale Heart destination and the most popular way to farm class items, wasn't handing out any additional drops. The odds of a drop were supposed to increase with each completion. Instead, it appeared to have ground to a halt.
“I spent over 2 hours and did 3 full overshoot runs and had NO falls” wrote “I KNEW this was going to be worse when they announced the changes. At least go back to the old ways, PLEASE BUNGIE. And actually BUFF the drop rates instead of NERFing them. Smfh…” wrote one player in a popular thread on the Destiny subreddit. wrote“3 Knockdowns for 1 Exotic Class Item, this is bullshit.”
The other main way to get exotic class item drops is through the Dual Destiny exotic quest. You're guaranteed at least one on your first completion each week, but otherwise it can be a long and tedious grind. Unfortunately, the new surprise nerf means this sub-optimal method is now the de facto best way to get this particular loot type.
“We've identified an issue impacting Exotic Class Item drop rates,” Bungie confirmed on August 7. “Currently, Tier 4 Drop Chests are not contributing to increased drop chances, and Exotic Class Items are not being awarded through them. We're currently developing a fix that's targeted for a near-term fix. We're also looking into giving players a way to chase certain perks in a future update. More details as plans become clearer.”
Players were not so forgiving. “So after 5 hours and only 2 drops I am NOT going CRAZY,” one wrote. Other Destiny 2 fans feel the exotic class item situation is the game's core appeal.Final Figure right now, the endgame needs more urgent attention. Some want the item to be craftable, while others just want Bungie to turn on the loot tap and let it rain on players.
Part of the reason for this is the low morale in the community following the recent deep cuts at Bungie and reports of them. Destiny 2 moving away from major expansions There’s no new sequel coming anytime soon. The future of the sci-fi MMO shooter has never been more uncertain, and it was a real whiplash moment for fans still reeling from an expansion that capped off 10 years of live-service storytelling. It’ll take more than a new Week at Bungie recap to repair that trust, but fixing the exotic class item disaster would be a start.
