Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has once again made a teaser for the next Borderlands game.
In a post on X that followed heavy criticism of the newly released Borderlands film, which performed poorly at the box office, Pitchford said that Gearbox is hard at work on the next installment in the looter-shooter series.
“So what you're saying is, you like what my friends and I are doing with our Borderlands video games even better than what some of the biggest and best actors and crew of filmmakers in the world have done,” he wrote. “I'm super flattered! We're working extra hard for you on what's next…”
Publisher 2K confirmed earlier this year that the next Borderlands game was in active development after announcing the acquisition of Gearbox Entertainment from the Embracer Group for $460 million.
Speaking to GamesRadar last month, Pitchford said fans won't have to wait long for more information.
“I couldn't perfectly hide the fact that we're working on a lot of things and that we're working on big things,” said the Gearbox co-founder.
“I'm confident that our fans will be very, very happy with the next video game project when we announce it. And I'm telling you, we won't keep people waiting long before we announce it.”

Pitchford hinted that an announcement about the next Borderlands game could come “before the end of the year” and “maybe sooner.”
He added: “I have the biggest and best team I've ever had and we're working on something that we know is exactly what our fans want from us – so I'm very, very excited. I can't wait to talk about it! I wish I could just start gushing right now because we have so much to say!”
According to 2K, the Borderlands series has sold nearly 87 million units since its launch in 2009.
The latest entry in the main series, 2019's Borderlands 3, is the publisher's fastest-selling title, having sold over 20 million copies.
With over 29 million copies sold, 2K's Borderlands 2 from 2012 is 2K's best-selling game since the label was founded seven years ago.
