One of the most unexpected big games of 2022 was a cute cult simulator. Lamb CultDeveloped by Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital, it was a hit when it was released two summers ago, appealing to all the little freaks and perverts out there. Animal Crossing-Daily tasks, as well as recruiting and relationship maintenance Hell' roguelike design and fast-paced combat make for a gripping journey into the heart of evil. In celebration of its second anniversary, you can pick up all the DLC released since launch, and it's especially cheap.
You can get it right now Lamb Cult It's 50 percent off on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, meaning the base game and all its major updates will cost just $12.49. For that price, you get a pretty substantial and fun adventure that should last about a weekend if you decide to marathon it. That's pretty much how I played the game when I reviewed it, and it really suits that approach.
You go in, you get it Deeply lost in their approachable systems—managing which cultists mine, tending to the crops, and spreading the good word of the lamb—and after 48 hours, you can give up on the game altogether. It was one of the smoothest gaming experiences I've had in the last few years, and the fact that it could be completed in around 20 hours is a blessing.
Lamb Cult It combines the disgusting nature of the cults (live sacrifices are made, and marriage to your subjects is on the table) with a cute, plush-like aesthetic, resulting in disturbingly entertaining outcomes. The first time you swing an axe at an enemy it feels strange, but soon beheading a heretic feels almost natural. You're responsible for feeding your cultists, and if you run out of food, you can feed them their own filth, or even the dead bodies that eventually start to pile up.
It's all a little scary but the truth is Lamb Cult's art style keeps the subject matter light, conveying just how much brutality we're willing to endure if it's dressed up to appeal to our sensibilities and desires. In a way, it's the most nakedly honest simulation yet, because why do we play these games if not to gain complete, sometimes terrifying control?
If the base game didn't have enough of that, Massive Monster has spent the last two years furthering this dark fantasy. Since then, they've added even more story to the game, new costumes and forms for your followers to take on, expanded weapons, and deeper mechanics like the sin system. Oh, and they've added breeding, too. This tweet from the team sums it up better than I could.
Latest update and DLC Lamb Cult They've even turned it into a co-op game, so you can now join in with a friend and commit heinous crimes against all manner of living things togetherWhile most of the new content has come to the game via free updates, there are also DLC packs that offer a wealth of cosmetics, and at least one or two of them have some added story. For $21.79 you can get: Lamb Cult and all major updates, plus all DLC packs released for the game.
Considering the base title goes for a flat $25, that means you get everything that's been added so far Lamb Cult for less than retail price. I don't know about you, but to me this feels like a great opportunity and time.
