Bakeru, the game considered the spiritual successor to the Goemon game series, is coming to the West.
The game was released on the Switch last year under the title Otogi Katsugeki Mameda no Bakeru, but only in Japan.
Now Spike Chunsoft has announced that the game will be released in the West on September 3rd for Switch and PC, where it will simply be called Bakeru.
A free demo for the game has also been added to the Nintendo Switch eShop.
“Take on the role of Bakeru in this 3D action game and adventure through the 47 prefectures of Japan to defeat the evil festival troops and restore peace,” says the game's description.
“There will be battles with fairy tale heroes and giant robots. You can fight back with your Taiko drum and use the Tanuki's Henge power to transform into different forms.”
Bakeru was developed by Good-Feel, the Japanese studio behind titles such as Yoshi's Woolly World, Yoshi's Crafted World and Kirby's Epic Yarn.
Good-Feel was founded in 2005 by Etsunobu Ebisu, who previously worked as a programmer and game designer at Konami and worked on games in franchises such as Castlevania.
However, he is best known for directing most of the classic Goemon series of games, including Goemon 2, 3 and 4 for the Super Nintendo, as well as 1997's Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for the N64, the last title he directed before taking on a long-term producer role.
Ebisu, the producer of Bakeru, returned to the role of director for the first time in over 25 years for Good-Feel's latest game, Princess Peach: Showtime.
