The First Descendant started with good character selectionand more are promised to be released in the future. The first proper update in recent memory delivered on that promise with the release of Ultimate Valby and Luna. The former is simply the Ultimate version of an existing character, while the latter is a brand new one. But if you don't want to pay, you'll want to follow our guide to getting the materials.

Luna is a Support class character who provides buffs with her music. While you can tackle content with her alone, she's much more effective with a team. I've detailed the different options to unlock her below, as well as a breakdown of her skills.
How do I unlock Luna for free?
Luna may be yours for “free,” but you'll pay for it with your time. You'll need to set aside a total of 1,000,000 gold for research costs and wait 24 to 40 hours for everything to be completed, plus there are some special materials you'll need to collect. I have compiled a list of everything needed so that you do not have to visit Anais at the Research Institute again and again. The gold and time required for Research Materials are also included.

These materials can be found in various areas around the map. Areas that you can use to collect the most of them include Hagios, Fortress, and Vespers. Keep in mind that if you have the space, you can research more than one thing at a time and mine three of these materials in the same eight-hour period.
Once all the research materials are ready, you can complete the final research request. It will take 16 hours and 400,000 gold. After this time, you can return to Anais and unlock Luna.
How much does it cost to fast unlock Luna?
If you are willing to spend some real money, you can save yourself all that trouble and time. Luna is one of the most expensive characters to purchase, costing 900 Caliberslike Esiemo or Kyle. However, there are no currency packs available at this specific amount, so you're best off buying the 1000 Caliber (+60 Bonus) pack for $19.99.

If you have some spare Caliber or perhaps want more cosmetic options, there's also the New Descendant: Exclusive Luna Bundle. This costs 1650 Caliber and also includes the Pool Party skin cosmetics, a Recorder chest piece, and an extra Descendant Slot for those who need it.
Luna's Skills
The most important thing to understand about Luna is that playing her properly is like a rhythm game. Each skill will play a different song, and the notes will move at a different rhythm over the cursor. You will fire in time with the rhythms using her unique Synthesizer Gun to properly apply her effects. Failure to do so will significantly reduce your MP.
Passive Skill
- Improvise – Luna's unique Inspiration Meter increases when a skill is used to hit a Note. Enhanced Skills can be used when the meter is full, but in turn, completely deplete the meter.
Active Skills
- Stage Presence – Turns the equipped firearm into a Synthesizer Weapon and causes Notes to appear on-screen. Landing perfect shots grants the Perfect Pitch Effect, which increases Skill Power.
- Exciting Action – Buffs Increase the skill power of yourself and nearby allies.
- Relaxing Action – Hitting notes restores MP for yourself and nearby allies
- Joyful Action – Increases her unique Inspiration Meter when she hits Notes and reduces Reload Times for nearby allies. Activating the previous two skills after filling this meter will transform them into Enhanced Skills, granting enhanced effects.
Luna is not a beginner-friendly Support character compared to others like Enzo or Jayber. She might be one of the hardest characters to play right now. The First DescendantThere's just too much to manage in the game, which makes focusing on different rhythms and a unique gauge hard as hell. The amount of MP you lose from poorly timed shots adds another layer of inexcusability on top of that.

However, it's refreshing to see such a distinct playstyle added. It feels great to be able to hit at the perfect times and keep your team in the fight. If you like the idea of a support character playing like this Hi-Fi RushIt's worth taking a look at Luna.
