“Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” is reportedly set to be released for PS5 next year.
This is the opinion of industry insider Nate the Hate, who has often made headlines before they are officially announced.
Ahead of a planned Indiana Jones screening at Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday, they claimed that Bethesda's title will be released in December as a limited-time console exclusive for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
“After this limited-time exclusivity window ends, Indiana Jones & the Great Circle is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 in the first half of 2025,” wrote Nate the Hate on X.
Last week, reports surfaced that Microsoft was about to announce plans to release another major Xbox exclusive for the PS5. At the time, Windows Central claimed there was a “big” chance the rumored announcement could be related to Indiana Jones and the Grand Circle.
The Verge also claimed in February that Xbox was considering bringing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to PS5 in the months following the game's release on Xbox and PC.
Indiana Jones was announced in January 2021 and is being developed at MachineGames, the Swedish studio behind the modern Wolfenstein titles.
The game was originally planned as a multi-platform console release, but was later confirmed to be an Xbox and PC exclusive, as well as a day-one title on Microsoft's Game Pass subscription service.
The terms of the agreement between Indiana Jones owner Disney and Bethesda were renegotiated after Microsoft acquired the studio's parent company, ZeniMax Media, for $7.5 billion in 2021.
Sean Shoptaw, Disney's head of games, told Axios last year: “Because Xbox is still one of the larger marketplaces for games, we didn't feel like we were being too exclusionary. We thought we would still reach a broad audience, and we thought it made sense financially and strategically for the game at that point.”
While the company was already firmly established on competing platforms thanks to the perennial bestsellers “Call of Duty” and “Minecraft,” Xbox announced plans in February to release more titles for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, starting with “Pentiment,” “Hi-Fi Rush,” “Sea of Thieves” and “Grounded.”
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has said he would never rule out a game coming to another platform, and it was recently claimed that Xbox was considering releasing a newly remastered version of Halo Combat Evolved for PlayStation.
Xbox is also reportedly considering releasing Gears of War, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Starfield for rival consoles.
At the Xbox Games Showcase in June, Microsoft announced Doom: The Dark Ages for Xbox Series X/S, PC and PS5.
