Lord of the Rings Anime Gets First Trailer and Release Date

An old king awaits his release date.

Peter Jackson's anime prequel Lord of the Rings The trilogy is set to be released on December 13, 2024, and it looks amazing. In the footage, Helm Hammerhand (Cox) meets with a rival king to discuss the marriage of his children, but when insults are hurled and honor is tarnished, a messy fight leaves the Dunlending king dead. His son Wulf (Luke Pasqualino) vows revenge, while Hammerhand’s daughter and Wulf’s fiancée Hèra (Gaia Wise) struggles to navigate the male-dominated political landscape. The resulting battle also serves as an origin story for the infamous fortress Helm’s Deep, which becomes famous in the climax. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

The Rohirrim War was originally supposed to come out earlier this year but was delayed to 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. It was directed by Kenji Kamiyama, most recently known for his animated series Ultraman, Star Wars: VisionsAnd Blade Runner: Black LotusInstead of using the divisive rotoscoping method used in Ralph Bakshi's original 1978 animation, Lord of the Rings film, The Rohirrim War It was first done in 3D, then artists used that to convert the scenes into traditional 2D animation.

The film is currently only coming to theaters, and there are currently no plans to release it on Max or any other service. More details are expected at this year's New York Comic Con in October.
