Tiffin is known for offering some of the most ostentatious and expensive bus-sized Class A motorhomes on the American market, so it may come as a surprise that it has added a fully off-grid Mercedes Sprinter camper to its lineup. It’s even more surprising that the GH1 four-wheel-drive adventure camper is priced lower than most of its competitors, including its own cousin, the Airstream Interstate 19X. And it looks like a real adventure machine.
Thor Industries, which acquired Tiffin in 2020, has been trying its best to capitalize on the Class B segment’s growth in recent years, with brands like Thor Motor Coach and Airstream rapidly growing their camper van lines. But of all the brands under the massive Thor Industries/Erwin Hymer umbrella, Tiffin would be the last one we’d expect to be the “next guy.” First and foremost, we’d consider a Sprinter-based luxury tourer like the (non-X) Airstream Interstate 19.
But life is full of surprises, and Thor’s luxury RV brand now offers a fully-equipped off-road adventure van right up there with its nearly seven-figure tri-axle extender RVs. The journey began three years ago, when Tiffin introduced its first Class B camper van, the battery-powered, off-grid-ready Cahaba. That model (or at least its model name) was short-lived and has since been effectively replaced by Tiffin’s one and only Class B product, the GH1.
The reason we featured Winnebago in the title wasn’t just to reiterate the Revel van’s skyrocketing MSRP, it was also because the GH1 was clearly ‘inspired’ by Winnebago’s well-known off-road adventure camper and offered a very similar layout and feature set.
Both floor plans start with a dual-purpose power lift bed system in the rear that opens up space for sports equipment, luggage and cargo during the day and lowers at night to provide a 124 x 201 cm (49 x 79 in) sleeping area.
Moving forward, the GH1 floor plan continues to flow much like the Revel’s, quickly encompassing the driver’s-side wet bathroom. The kitchen layout opposite also feels eerily familiar, relying on a portable single-burner induction hob rather than a built-in hob, an 88L fridge positioned for convenient indoor/outdoor access and a pop-up outdoor bench supported by an adjustable cable.
Tiffin finally separates the GH1 floor plan from the Revel in the design of the flexible forward dinette. The GH1 initially stuck to the Revel playbook with a standard two-person bench behind the driver’s cab seats separated by a removable dining table, but the 2025 model offers both a two-person “Luxury Jump Seat” and an “Adventure Bar” as options.
Not as intoxicating as it sounds, the Adventure Bar is a multipurpose console that features a bench and shelves above a series of storage compartments. It can be used as a compact dining area and mobile workstation, along with the swiveling driver’s seat, and as an extra bench or workbench. Only two people can sleep in a van anyway, so Tiffin offers a second use for the space for couples who don’t need extra passenger seats.
We reckon the Adventure Bar could also double as a real bar if you stocked the cabinets with a variety of drinks and used the counter to mix things up, but that would be a bit too much living space dedicated to the booze habit, especially an area near the ignition of the van…
You might expect the GH1 to lean more toward relaxed highway touring based on past Tiffin designs, but the brand doesn't skimp on off-road capability. Along with the Mercedes-Benz all-wheel-drive system, the van gets standard features like Agile Offroad suspension with Fox shock absorbers, special “adventure” wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires, a built-in ARB air compressor, and an LED light bar on the front of the roof rack.
The GH1 is equipped to go outside, and Tiffin has installed a full off-grid package to keep it going. It comes with a 540Ah Battle Born lithium battery, which can be upgraded to 810Ah, paired with a 3,000W pure sine inverter and a 220W solar panel. The 98L fresh water tank gets a little help from a Showmiser recirculation system, which directs fresh water back into the tank as the shower heats up, preventing the cold water that starts to flow down the drain into the grey water tank. The GH1 also comes pre-wired for optional Starlink Pro connectivity.
Other standard features include a diesel air and water heater, a 15,000 BTU air conditioner, power roof vents, and an outdoor power awning with integrated LED lighting. Tiffin doesn't offer a published price list on its website, and its configurator ends with “print this configuration and take it to the dealer for pricing.” Weak.
A quick look at online ads at various dealerships and you’ll see that the GH1 MSRP starts around $189,000, more than $50,000 cheaper than the $245,463 Winnebago Revel 44E. Based on those same ads, both vans are readily available at deep discounts right now, with the GH1 still coming in tens of thousands of dollars cheaper.
