Microsoft's Sea of Thieves has reportedly surpassed one million sales on PlayStation 5.
According to sources at Windows Central, the game developed by Rare reached an important sales milestone on Sony's console some time ago.
Although Xbox has yet to announce sales figures for the game on PS5, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that the $40/£40 title has sold well since its release in late April.
According to Sony, Sea of Thieves was the most downloaded PS5 game in both the US/Canada and Europe in May. In June, it ranked in the top five most downloaded games and in July it remained in the top ten.
The pirate-themed cooperative multiplayer game was originally released for Xbox One and PC in March 2018, making it the first Microsoft exclusive title to be released on Xbox Game Pass at the same time as its retail release.
Before the game's release on PS5, Rare said that Sea of Thieves had already been played by over 40 million people.
On Tuesday, Xbox confirmed that MachineGames' Indiana Jones title will be coming to PS5 early next year after first launching on Xbox and PC this December.
Indiana Jones is the latest first-party Xbox game confirmed for PS5, following four initial cross-platform releases earlier this year and the announcement of Doom: The Dark Ages in June.
Following the announcement of Indiana Jones, Microsoft's head of gaming said it made business sense to bring more Xbox titles to other console platforms.
“When we announced PlayStation last spring, we obviously released four games – two for Switch, four for PlayStation – and we said we would learn,” said Phil Spencer. “I think at the showcase I might have said we'll make more based on what we've learned.
“When I look at this, I notice that our franchises are getting stronger. We have more Xbox players this year than ever before. When I look at this, I say to myself: our player base for the console platform is increasing, our franchises are stronger than ever… and we're running a business.”
Spencer added: “It's definitely the case that at Microsoft, the bar is set very high for us in terms of what we have to give back to the company, because we get a level of support from the company that is just amazing in terms of what we can do.
“So I’m looking at this: How can we make our games as strong as possible, [ensure that] Our platform continues to grow on console, PC and cloud and I think that's just a strategy that's working for us.”
