Sun Valley tiny house proves less can be more with its simple open layout

Australia’s Ridgeline Tiny Homes proves that sometimes less can be more with its Sun Valley model. The tiny home adopts a simple, light-filled layout that enhances the small space available and would make a good fit as a holiday home or second home.

With its pitched roof and sleek black exterior, Sun Valley is a change from the cute little cabin-like tiny homes we usually see. It’s based on a three-axle trailer and is 7.2m (23.7ft) long. The house is finished in metal and has plenty of glass, which helps to flood the interior with natural light.

The tiny house is entered through double glass doors and its interior measures just 15.4 square meters (166 square feet). Ridgeline Tiny Homes has made some interesting decisions regarding the layout here. For starters, the house is arranged on one level, so there’s no mezzanine, which helps it look much more airy and light-filled.

The entrance opens into the living room. It's compact and simple and consists of a sofa with integrated storage facing the double doors – and that's about it. The kitchen is nearby and has a sink, a two-burner propane-powered stove, plus a small fridge and some cupboards.

The kitchen connects to the bedroom. This includes a double bed with built-in storage and more generous glazing. And thanks to its ground-floor location, it has enough headroom to stand upright, unlike loft-based tiny house bedrooms which often require occupants to crawl to get into bed.

There is only one separate area in the Sun Valley tiny house, the bathroom, which has a sink, flush toilet, and shower.

Like many tiny homes, the Sun Valley has a number of customization options, including the home’s color, finishes, and cabinetry. We don’t have any word on pricing or availability.
