Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says his company still has no plans to release its triple-A titles on release day through subscription services.
In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Zelnick said he believes Microsoft's decision to make Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 available on Xbox Game Pass on release day will increase subscriber numbers for the service.
However, he also stressed that this would not affect Take-Two's policy of not releasing its bigger-budget games on Game Pass or PS Plus from day one.
“I think offering a top title at a premium price on a subscription service, day and date, will drive consumers to that subscription service, at least for a while,” Zelnick acknowledged.
When asked if this would change Take-Two's attitude towards delivering day-one games on subscription services, he replied: “No, it will not affect our decisions. Because our decisions are rational.”
Black Ops 6 will be released on October 25, 2024 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC and will be available on Xbox Games Pass Ultimate from day one.
Activision plans to reveal the full Black Ops 6 multiplayer mode at its annual Call of Duty Next event on August 28th.
A Black Ops 6 beta will run from August 30 to September 4 on all platforms. It will be available to anyone who pre-orders the game or subscribes to select Game Pass plans.
A second beta weekend will be available to all players from September 6th to 9th.
Last week, the first trailer for the Zombies mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was released.
