The Nano Suisse is as small as a tiny house can be, while still remaining a practical living space. Recently completed by Baluchon of France, the home is just 3.5m (11.5ft) long but has a space-saving interior layout that fits two people and even a home office.
To put its size into perspective, most Baluchon tiny homes, like the Hytta, are around twice as tall, while the Tellico is almost four times as long. Described as the “big sister” to Baluchon's original Nano, the difference in size is actually negligible – it's around 20cm (7.8in) longer. The real difference is in its interior layout, which is completely different and focuses more on storage.
The Nano Suisse is based on a dual-axle trailer and is finished in red cedar cladding with aluminum accents. The entrance opens to the home office area, which could also double as a dining area and includes seating for two, plus a large window and plenty of storage space considering the size of the tiny house. A sofa bed is nearby, serving as both the main living area and the bedroom. Above this area is more storage space.
As you'd expect, the kitchen is very small and basic. There's a sink, fridge, and some storage space – plus a portable stove tucked in there – and that's about it, so this tiny house is probably best suited for short stays or Really serious about downsizing.
The only separate room in the Nano Suisse is the bathroom. Accessed via a sliding door from the kitchen area, this room contains a shower and toilet (no sink, presumably due to size restrictions). There is also a small storage area above the bathroom.
The Nano Suisse has already been moved to its owner’s estate in Switzerland. We don’t have any information on the price, but Baluchon’s tiny homes typically start at €85,000 (about $92,000).
