Veilguard Gets Its First Mage Gameplay Trailer

Dragon Age: Guardian of the Veil takes more action-oriented approach more combat than its predecessors. Early footage suggests that the sequel looks to be closer to a character action game, so as someone who played a mage in each of those games, I was curious to see how Veil Keeper was going to adapt the spell-slinger class to that playstyle. Now we've got our first look at the class in action, and it looks pretty awesome.

The images are taken from NVIDIA's technology trailer Veil KeeperImpressive ray tracing. You tech geeks might enjoy it, but I'm more interested in how the mage class works in action-oriented combat. Dragon Age II And Inquisition were definitely closer to full-fledged action RPGs, but they still leaned at least somewhat towards the original Origins' tactical roots. Veil Keeper completely away from them, and how this would affect mages was one of the biggest question marks hanging over the game. We now see Rook (the player character), a mage who wields a staff that can do both close-range combat and long-range spells. The mage appears to have a few tricks up his sleeve, with a melee slashing ability, a green Fade-like magic beam to distract enemies from afar, and more powerful energy spells that can attack multiple enemies at once.

In standard attack, you have to wave your wand while firing indefinite damage spells, but According to BioWare executive producer Michael GambleWizard players will also be able to use an orb or dagger as their primary weapon instead of a staff. So even this trailer seems to only show one way to play the wizard. Watch the video below:
