Dark Legend: Wukong It features a number of difficult bosses throughout its lengthy campaign, and each one promises to halt your progress at least a few times as you figure out their moves and learn to counter them. However, one early game boss in particular stumbles many new players, finding it insurmountable even after many tries. And yes, that boss is the Wandering Wight.
Wandering Wight, encountered within the first hour Dark Legend: WukongLocated in a clearing in the forest just beyond the Out of the Forest shrine, this massive boss deals outrageous damage for very little in return—but that's probably because you weren't ready to defeat this bad guy when you first saw him. Here's the scoop.
Let's get ready
Defeating the Wandering Wight is more about preparation and having the right skills than anything else, so it's in your best interest to not fight this boss the first time you encounter him. Instead, let's get a few things straight.
- First, defeat Guangzhi, the other optional boss in the jungle, to get your first transformation skill, Red Tide. This transformation allows you to become Guangzhi and deal some fire damage, while also temporarily giving you a new health bar. This can be vital to your survival against the Wandering Wight.
- Then, progress through the chapter normally until you reach the Bamboo Forest section. This handy XP grinding spot in the Snake Road temple Level up in the Survival tree until you at least max out Robust Constitution and buy both ranks of Crash in the Immobilize tree. This will give you more health and allow you to deal more damage to Immobilized enemies.
- Finally, be sure to upgrade your armor to the Pilgrim Set at any temple to give yourself a little extra defense.
Let's kick his ass
When you feel ready, return to the shrine outside the forest and head towards the Wandering Wight and get ready to fight.
From the start, Immobilize him and continue to attack him with combos as much as possible. Once Immobilize is broken, watch out for his retaliatory attacks and keep your distance, as most of his attacks have range, where a poorly timed dodge can take out half your health in one hit.
Keep your distance until he lands one of his combos. While he recovers, swoop in and deal damage until he starts to prepare for another attack, then once again retreat far enough that his big sweeping attacks and kicks can't touch you.
The main concern in this fight is the energy beam it fires at you. You can prepare for this by watching for when it starts to charge up, then either dodging behind it (ideal) or timing a dodge that avoids the beam. Getting hit by this attack can be devastating and in many cases, ruin your chances of having enough health to defeat the boss, so learning how to avoid it is key to success.
When he's around 25% health, use your Red Tides transformation and close the gap. While transforming, use your strongest attacks available to pound him until he finally runs out. If he's still standing, you should only have a little bit of health left to tear him apart, so play it safe and keep up the momentum.
Defeat him and you'll gain some Willpower and materials, and you'll also be given the Cat's Eye Beads Curious Item and the Wandering Wight soul.
Let's equip your soul
If you took our advice and continued on to Bamboo Forest before encountering the Wandering Wight, you should have come across a guy who gives your pumpkins the ability to absorb and equip souls. The Wandering Wight's soul is a great option early in the game, as it passively boosts your defenses while also granting you a headbutt summon that deals massive damage to enemies.
Now that you've defeated the Wandering Wight and gained its soul, move on to Chapter 1 with the confidence that with a little work, practice, and a healthy dose of self-confidence, nothing is insurmountable.
